If, in fact, a truck loaded with gravel damaged this section of sidewalk, the Stoneham DPW should repair it and then bill the company of the truck that damaged the sidewalk. Thank you Sally D. for being on top of this issue. Let's put all vendors from town or out of town on notice that they need to be responsible for the damage they cause.

Either that or ultimately the property owner. These sidewalks were recently replaced after many years of deterioration. It's a shame to see them damaged so soon.

This caved in sidewalk is 2 doors down and access from the South Elementary School. Nobody so far has been held responsible for this destruction. School starts on Monday and nothing has been done.

I forwarded this SCF page to the TA Dave Ragucci, Head of DPW Robert Grover, Selectman Boussy and Selectwoman O'Neill. Since you indicate in your first report of the problem that the truck delivering gravel to that address caused the damage, it should be easy enough for the town to track down the company responsible and hold them accountable. Hopefully, Dave Ragucci and Bob Grover have done or are in the process of doing this. Hopefully they will communicate an update on this repair. I live around the corner from Summer St. so thank you for staying on top if this. The children who attend school there and others who walk on the side walk there deserve to do so safely.

Thanks for following up on this for me. It's very frustrating to see things in this town go neglected and in disrepair leading to safety issues. Pedestrian safety does not seem to be a high priority.

Other than being acknowledged, is there anything going to be done about this safety issue?

Hi Sally D. I agree with you. So that we know something is in the works to fix this problem, I wish someone from the town would send an update on what is being done about it. If we do not get an update in a timely fashion, it leaves residents to believe nothing is being done and that just causes some people to turn apathetic after they took the time and trouble to report the issue in good faith that corrective action would be taken. I will email Dave and Bob to ask if they would please update SCF to let us know what is being done to correct this issue.

The owner of the property was notified about the damage to the sidewalk in front of their house as a result of construction related work and the need to fix it. At this time the company who delivered gravel, as previously suggested, is not known. Due to the fact the driveway was also paved it is likely the two different companies will seek to blame the other for damage. The homeowner has yet to provide the names of these companies or contacted our department. No Dig Safe was called in or insurance posted to Town related to this work resulting in the Department being unaware of the responsible party or a fast method of seeking compensation.

This was not done by the paving crew. It was a large full size 18 wheel tractor trailer delivering filll. The property owner was filling in a built in swimming pool in the backyard. The tractor trailer was so large it also cracked the walkway leading to the front door of the property.

Town's sidewalk contractor has replaced this sidewalk section. Still no information regarding gravel company or paving company provided. Additional measures are being taken.

Thank you to Bob Grover and Dave Ragucci for fixing the sidewalk at 14 Summer St., as well as, other sections of sidewalks along Main St. down by Dairy Dome and across the street in front of the church. As a tax payer though, I would like to see the town be more vigilant in collecting from contractors who damage town property, when possible.
