This has been a blighting influence on our block for many months. Neighbors would like to help LCI in any way possible. It would be great to have contact information for current owner. We have been told it is in foreclosure but are not aware of the current status. What incentives are in place to have the current owner maintain it? If LCI cleans it up, will current owner be billed for the cost?

If LCI cleans the property a lien will be placed on the property.

LCI I would like to help. I know you guys are spread thin, there are a lot of foreclosed properties that are abandoned. As a resident what can I do to help? Is it illegal to voluntarily tend to the yard to prevent blight?

While we can not grant you permission, I have heard stories about neighbors dealing with concerns on their own.

It looks like this foreclosure issue is going to take some time to resolve. Between city & state agencies & various banks there are claims in excess of 2 million dollars that need to be litigated. One of the owners died in 2009. My guess is the husband could be in a convalescent home. I do not think anyone will be filing any objections if the neighborhood decides to mow &cleanup the lot to prevent further neighborhood blight. right now the property is in limbo, so it is not owned by anyone specific who are all laying claim to monies owed them for loans, back taxes, water & sewer liens. That is why LCI cannot give any permission to take care of this property If anyone is a lawyer, they can look at the site given in this post & let us know whether what I just wrote here is correct.

I hope it’s not illegal to tend to the house, because I’ve been doing some work to mitigate the situation — picking up trash and branches, weed-whacking the yard, etc.

Thanks Dana, until this is resolved we will just have to pitch in to prevent the condition from getting worse, not to do the bank a favor but our neighborhood.

maybe we can request a bulk trash pickup and band together to clean the junk out of the yard?

besides, no one even knows which bank owns it. 😕

I think neighborhood action would be appreciated by everyone in the neighborhood. You are not trying to destroy anything, just trying to keep things in check. The property probably has no current insurance, so everyone needs to be extra careful to not have an accident.

I cut the grass and blew all of the trimmings off of the sidewalk. I raked and bagged as much as I could and broke up most of the branches. Public works or LCI, can you remove the branches that are on the treebelt?

I have to return tonight to bring the leaf bag and the trash can to the curb, can someone return the trash can tomorrow after Public Works empties it? I will be tied up until 8p tomorrow.

LCI was supposed to be notified of the pickup. Tick Tock. The neighborhood went to all the trouble to clean up the property. At least a pickup of chopped up limbs is not too much to ask. Who dropped the ball here ?

Most of them got picked up — the pile is smaller than it was before. But there are still a bunch of branches left.

I disposed of those missing branches, I put them in a bin and they were picked up by Public Works when they did the trash run, LCI was suppose to send someone for the rest
