Description
This blocks is, per signage, closed to through trucks. Can the police sit on the road and start enforcing this? Large box trucks and bigger come plowing up and down this block all times of day and night, disregarding the signs at the entrance to the block. As the auto traffic has increased on the block it is very narrow and the trucks frequently travel the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.

Enforcement will never work as a solution in the long-term.
Narrowing the street - designing it in a way that is appropriate to its status as a street directly adjacent to a park - is what will work. Crosswalks and even entire streets can be raised, curb extensions added, and bollards used to protect parked cars and pedestrians. This is known as a "self enforcing" design.
Just look to urban design examples from countless other U.S. and world cities. Hopefully we'll eventually have people in City Government who know how to do this.
Streets are by far the largest and most important public space in any city like New Haven - the cities that are economically successful these days are the ones that are reclaiming them from their exclusive orientation to motor vehicle traffic.

Sorry Mark what WILL work is the Police enforcing these "minor" regulations such as the same one on Valley Street- Trucks day and night - enforcement by issuing a few tickets goes a long way to the daily violators. The police are parked in the lot at Blake Street and NADA. What are our tax dollars going for?? Easy to give the police an out for not doing their job. Why do we have these traffic regulations if their not enforced. We could save many dollars on wasted signage such as One Way, Stop, cross walk, etc as no one obeys these either.
Making the streets more difficult for offenders doesn't stop them it just makes it more dangerous for people who live and park on the streets Have u not lived here long?
Pathetic that you have to defend the Police for their lack of effort in bettering the community.
