Let us know if you see any police staked out for a speed trap. If you don't see any police in the next day or two, contact Selectwoman Caroline Colarusso. Let her know your concerns. The more town officials you contact about the issue, the more chances you have to get action taken. Good luck.

Cinnamon Thank You I will.. But, why do I have to contact a selectman in this town to light a fire under the Police Chiefs rear? One would think our finest would just do their job as expected. It's like calling the painters boss to get him to paint.

AND, issuing traffic citations generates revenue, which is something you don't usually think of when it comes to government. At the June 7th selectman meeting there was am uproar over the speed bump on Park Street...some say it's damaging cars and dangerous to pedestrians when speeding cars try to drive around it. I find it very curious how everyone dances around the obvious solution of a visibly placed Stoneham cop to catch violators. Thank you golfer, we moved here 3 years ago and know we are not alone with some common sense questioning!

I agree speeding is an issue on Washington. I don't agree with bashing the PD though. They go above and beyond to do their jobs and more. I'm sure they would love to sit around doing nothing, but regulate speed, however it seems they are tied up being called out to vehicles whose tires are 3mm over the crack in the pavement that differentiates between the street and sidewalk.

I have been following this website for some time and have seen many complaints about cars parked on sidewalks. Most of the photos I've seen, have cars completely, or mostly blocking pedestrian traffic.
I haven't seen any complains about a car parked less than one eighth of an inch on the sidewalk, roughly 3mm. I may be wrong. If you find a post of someone complaining about a vehicle that far on the sidewalk, please let me know.

I agree, let's not bash the Stoneham PD as I am not one who want's their job. I have lived in this town for 30+ years and let's be honest, when was the last time you saw flashing blue lights stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation??? Ignoring the speed limit has become the new style of driving by many drivers. I watch every day how 50% of the drivers ignore stopping at the 4 way stop signs on High Street :-o A right turn on red is OK if you come to a complete stop first. Today's style of driving it's OK to not stop as long the driver doesn't see anybody coming :-o

Would you want to be the Crossing Guard at the intersection of Spring & Washington Street every day??? Have you ever watched the speed of the vehicles coming down the hill on Spring. I don't blame the crossing guard for staying on the sidewalk. You have to be nut's to cross the street there. Someone is going to get killed some day. Let in not be a child.

Our vehicle insurance rates are based on the number of accidents in our town. Now, everyone including our Town Officials, Authorities & Residents who ignore the driving laws and getting in to or causing an accident are contributing to the rates we already pay. You would think the Town of Stoneham residents would be pressuring to Stoneham PD to make "OUR" town the safest in the USA.???????

I am out and about our great town every day. If I can see vehicle operators with Expired Inspection Stickers, No Seat Belts on, Texting while driving, Speeding, Ignoring Stop Signs & Lights or Parking on the Sidewalks, What!!!!! Are our paid officials looking at while on duty???????

Idea :-o While our Parking Enforcement Officer is writing Parking Tickets in the Center of Town every day maybe he/she should start taking note and calling in to the PD 500' away all the Expired Inspection Stickers & Expired Registration Stickers they see. Those are Violations are they not????

Since Stoneham's nickname is the "cut through" Town, I am sure the SPD could ticket careless drivers from out of town that would help put much needed funds in our town coffers! I would like to think Stoneham drivers are better than what you describe. So, it has to be the out of towners cutting through our town of which you speak, I hope!

More money In the town treasury could possible mean new/improved sidewalks, painted cross walks, elimination of sports fees at the HS, elimination of the trash fee, etc., the wish list goes on and on.

So wish law enforcement would crack down on texting while driving, DUIs, speeding, etc.

Amen! But I find the lack of response on this subject from Stoneham PD curious. Are restricted by some town by-law? Is it a hopelessly underfunded/understaffed situation? Indifference? I live near the station so I hear when sirens go off an average of maybe 1-2 times a day. Not knowing how many cops we have I don't know if that is a lot or not. Otherwise, I never see PD vehicles except in the PD parking lot. Compared to police presence I see when driving through surrounding towns touching Stoneham one might assume Stoneham may not have it's own PD.

The Drivers who speed in such a neighborhood with children evidently have a death wish.... If they hurt, kill, or maime someone, especially on that street, ; perhaps we as citizens should help them get their 'wish'...'...It an arrogant jerk as that hurts my Grandchild...on Park Street , much discussed or this street....they may never drive again..Promise. WE have tempers also... Arrogance is America's No. 1 Enemy Right now....It has overtaken Heart Trouble and Cancer.........

Been a week plus. Cars have been flying low on Washington Street toward Elm. Here's the best one :-) They are building a new home on Washington St. A Police detail was standing there watching cars do at least 50mph by him. He reminded me of Sgt Schultz.

I have a good idea. Let's take a day off from the snarky police bashing. Every day they go to work and put their lives on the line for us. Show a little respect.

I do not think that bashing is the correct term to use. I am extremely appreciative for the risk the police take as part of their job. Like in any other job, part of it may be tough or risky, but that does not mean you can stop doing the rest of your job.
Speeding vehicles, or dealing with illegally parked cars on sidewalks causing public safety issues seem to be a recurring problem. Whatever actions the police department are taking, does not appear to be dealing successfully with the situation. Whether or not they are doing all they can to address these issues, I do not know. What I do know, is that the appearance is that more could be done.

Kudos to the SPD for parking on a side street and monitoring or ticketing speeding vehicles on Washington Street heading toward Elm Street yesterday afternoon.

To the SPD, I'm not telling you how to do your job but, Next time monitor the speeding vehicles from the corner of Vera Lane and Washington Street. IMO that is where violators drive the fastest on Washington Street toward Elm. In the early AM is when the violators drive the fastest IMO with a coffee in one hand & phone in the other. It's a sight to see :-)
