That service request number does not work at the link you gave me. Please follow-up on this, you are endangering the lives of cyclists.

Here's a picture of the tracks at this location, which have not yet been addressed. I tried adding some marking paint to the most hazardous bumps and gaps to help bicyclists avoid them, but at this stage there is almost no safe way to get across these tracks safe dismounting and walking across.

I understand that track removal is very expensive and complicated, but there must be a simpler and cheaper solution to this issue in the short term, at least. This particular track (in both the north and south bound directions of Mandela Parkway at 26th St) is even worse than all of the other bad track crossings around here and should be prioritized first. This is an on-street section of the Bay Trail, believe it or not, and it scares me to think that parents and kids might be biking through here.

I contacted the Burlington Northern Railway about this issue and they replied that they do not own any crossings in this area. Could Oakland PW please follow up on this issue with the appropriate agency (perhaps Union Pacific?).

The man at BNSF that I've been speaking to is Hower, Sean P, sean.hower@bnsf.com. It's not actually his job but he's the closest thing to a contact that the city of oakland had, but he's a fellow cyclist and is doing his best to get BNSF to do the right thing. I wish the city of oakland would do this, they own the road, it's really their problem, but they just passed the buck on this one.

I was amazed and thrilled to see a crew hired by BNSF out here on Mandela Pkwy just yesterday, fully removing and repaving this long-standing train track hazard! Thank you so much for taking care of this, and I truly hope this means other similar issues around the city are going to start getting some attention as well.
