Hello- thanks for posting. We are working with Manufacturers to replace these structures. For the embankment slide there is many new codes we have to meet when installing a new slide on the type of terrain we have at Lewis St Park, we are working on the design to be compliant with National Playground Standards.

Thanks for your reply. I certainly appreciate the complexities with replacing this sort of equipment. I just wanted to get some sense of the status of the project, since it’s been several years now of non-functioning equipment in a park that gets an enormous amount of use in the summer, from school and daycare groups visiting to play on the splash pad and playground to neighborhood children who visit the park every day. There’s a lot of neighborhood support for this park, let us know if there’s anything we can do!

I, too, am eager to receive an update on the status of the broken play items at Lewis Street Park. While I am willing to accept that there are some manufacturer/code issues related to the slide, there doesn’t appear to be any good argument to leave the dangerous cement footing from the second former “bouncy duck.” As a reminder, the Park’s Dept began to excavate it a couple of years ago only to abandon the project and leave some orange fencing around it. It now remains as a dangerous and unsightly hole.

As others have said, please involve the community. We are eager to help work, design, maintain and care for the equipment and resources of the park. Thank you.

Yesterday while in the park, I saw a young girl climbing on top of the broken slide (rather than just using a functional one...) who promptly fell and hurt herself. The broken and dysfunctional equipment in Lewis St park is dangerous. Any update on when we can expect these play pieces to be replaced?

They should take the shower section and the blue slide. The problem was that "adults" were using the closed slide and the swing for inappropriate activity at night time thanks to the lack of light. The renovation of the park was a great idea but bad planning; when the showers are on it gets really muddy all the way to the bottom section by the table.

We are almost into July & we still have no timeline. At this rate summer will be over & things will be tabled for another year. I might add that this is an election year. If you don't get any action now you will lose momentum until the next election cycle. There go another 2 years. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Hello - still waiting for an update as to when this equipment will be replaced. There is a weekly park cleanup night Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm for the next several weeks that many neighbors come to, perhaps someone from Parks and Rec could come and update us?

Broken for many years. How do we get this repaired. Kids always playing on broken slide. This is a safety issue.

Parks Department, please fix the slide. Kids play on it this way, someone is going to get hurt.

Have you gotten your alder involved ? has anyone spoken with Parks ? At this rate it will take years to get this issue resolved.

Hi Everyone. Yesterday a Playscape company came out to Lewis St part to take measurements. We are looking to replace the slide plus replace the 2 spring rockers. Once we receive the recommendations from the company we can all review. Thank you for your patience

Thanks for the update. There is only one swing in the park, the tire one. Wouldn't it make sense to have more swings, as well as fixing the slide?

The order has been processed. The installer will be calling me soon to coordinate delivery and installation of the new equipment. I will let you know when I get another update. We are getting a new slide, 2 new rockers, a new seesaw and safety chips for a surface.

Wow, incredible news! That said, I am a little concerned about the new equipment, namely the seesaw. Where is that going to be placed? Is an existing portion of grassed area going to be converted into a woodchipped area for the seesaw, etc?
