Agreed. I’ve lived here since 1997 and have reported many First Student buses, CT transit buses and ##-NH plated vehicles. The unfortunate part is the traffic experts have created a motoring public who have learned to speed lest they get stuck at one of the hundreds of malfunctioning traffic signals at which one could easily lapse into a coma waiting for the light to change to green. There’s also a very strong entitlement mentality that has cultivated such that a motorist simply pulls out into traffic from a fast food or other parking lot and those already on the main road are expected to yield to the entitled one. Tragically, a motorcyclist lost his life because of that growing mentality. This behavior is not tolerated and, by default, encouraged in surrounding towns. There the residents expect and therefore get action from their elected officials. A long way of saying things are a mess here and until the fundamental issues are addressed no number of bandages can reattach the severed limb of lack of regard for others.

I was told by an officer that they don't do speed enforcement on a regular shift. It has to be specifically traffic or a grant dedicated for traffic enforcement. The problem has been happening for years. I don't really see a solution coming any time soon. The speeding is rampant across New Haven and specifically Westville. Even the mayor has acknowledged this, lives in Westville, and we haven't seen any major reduction in speeding.

And yet Chapel Street gets “traffic calming” while Edgewood Avenue gets traffic speeders from Forrest Road, those speeders often ignore the traffic signals and there’s a school on Edgewood Avenue. People treat Edgewood Avenue like a highway. Why can we not get speed bumps.

I wish I could vote for this multiple times. The speeding is ridiculous. It would be so much better if we had more stop signs and less stop lights.

I've spoken to my alder about the speeding, and reckless driving in general. There's a constant claim that we don't have enough police officers but it comes down to what priorities are set by the administration. If we want a lawful city we need to have laws enforced.

This was posted over a year ago and th problem continues and gets worse every day. Speeding on Edgewood is out of control.

It’s like trying to stop a bad bleed with a flimsy bandage- the focus continues to be on the effect instead of the cause. The traffic management is among the worst around. Signal seem to be programmed to snarl traffic so when motorists encounter a relatively open road they instinctively make up for lost time, knowing they are not far from the next malfunctioning traffic signal. And in terms of paying attention to these notifications I imagine the highest elected official will have time to look at these and will gain some insight into what the citizens are tired of dealing with. Pacifiers only work for so long and time is up :)

This was posted in 2018 and it is now 2021 and, if anything, this problem is worse. Edgewood Avenue is a dangerous speedway. Just this past week a teenaged driver was t-boned by a speeder. Will someone have to die before any action is taken to SLOW DOWN traffic?? No more talk. We need action.

I have been witness to several accidents on Edgewood Ave. The school should have visible electronic monitors recording vehicle speed. Constant speeding and dangerous disregard for other pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

There are actually 3 schools on Edgewood Avenue which should encourage movement on this issue. Yale put in a raised walkway from their new sports pavilion to their parking lot on Yale Avenue. I would like to see similar walkways at major intersections on Edgewood.

Traffic enforcement is way down under the Elicker administration, and the Mayor and the BOA cut the police budget. The sad truth is the City is bankrupt.
