Thank you so much for your persistence. It took me 3 years to get the no parking signs and stop for pedestrian signs at the MKT and Shepherd feeder (one block west). It takes more than one kind of intervention to get people prioritized over drivers at these intersections and it is now even more difficult now that Veronica Davis has left. This city!

Observations:

An investigation was conducted on 2-9-24 at 8:30AM regarding a sign needed at 700 Waverly St (North/South) & 600 W 8th St (East/West). I contacted requestor Leslie on 2-9-24 at 8:30AM and she stated that " MKT trail needs to be made more safer cars speeding and could get someone killed can a sign like stop here for pedestrians/bike be installed." During the investigation it was noticed that all the pedestrians and bikers were disregarding the Stop Signs on the MKT trail thinking that motorists traveling north/south bound on 700 Waverly St. should stop for them to cross street. I also saw a motorists that would yield to pedestrians/bike riders. A referral will be sent to Ian Hlavacek-HPW to further investigate the installation of north/south bound (stop here for pedestrians/bike) sign of the MKT trail on 700 Waverly St between W 8th St and W 6th St.

I support a stop sign for vehicles to allow pediatri and to cross. Rutland and Allston have this I don’t understand why waverly doesn’t.

Exactly - those exact inconsistencies are why people in cars get confused and just speed down Waverly. People on the trail assume they have right-of-way b/c they do most other places (despite the stop signs for them at the waverly intersection for the trail only). Half the cars stop if someone is there, but a lot do not. I think it should be consistent along the trail to avoid confusion - someone has already been hit here and we’d hate to have another tragedy that could have been prevented.

I previously opened a ticket on this to no avail. Best of luck.

Put a stop sign not speed cushions. People still fly over those and we all know Houston roads have enough ‘natural’ speed cushions through the various pot holes the city fails to fix.

The only thing that might truly make a difference is a stop sign at the trail (unfortunately)as I’ve watched cars fly over the existing speed bumps/cushions right here near 716. The speeding has gotten even worse since I opened the ticket…more apartments around here opening & more traffic problems.
The guy I spoke with in February really seemed to take it seriously and he went and watched/witnessed this issue and seemed very empathetic and understanding of how bad it is here. He also said he was sending it to his supervisor so I’d love to speak with the person that is recommending just speed cushions if possible.
