Description
Formal request traffic study to provide for a left turn lane and a traffic signal at this intersection. The Jacobs Ranch development has grown exponentially over the past 10 years and it is the only development in all of SS that does not have a left turn lane. This development is larger than others that do have left turn lanes. There is no signage on redwood and ring road. This is the road that the firetrucks and ambulance are located. Traffic is getting so congested through here it can take 5-10 minutes to to exit onto redwood. It is becoming dangerous, especially for our young drivers. Please review and consider a left turn lane and a traffic light.

Traffic moves quickly in both directions. Visibility from ring road looking north is obscured due to slight bend and hilly contour.
My family has had near misses, nearly getting rear ended at high speed, while waiting northbound on redwood road making that left onto ring road.
Why every other intersection south of this one(where populations are lower) has much safer solutions, does not make sense.
Please help make this happen!

Having used the ring road and fairway intersections heavily over the last 10 years (two different homes) I would say the ring road intersection is by far the greater safety risk and should be addressed first. Fairway has greater visibility and established turn and acceleration lanes, ring road does not. Not to mention the speed limit change happens back at the first light but I believe most people continue in the 50s at least until ring road. There is a higher probability of reduced speeds at the fairway intersection.
I'm not excited for another light but I think without it we are only going to tempt a fatal accident as the population goes up.

I think a traffic light would be better served at Fairway and Redwood. More populous area, there's power and room there to do it. This will serve the First responders at Ring Road as well, as they can activate the light and the one that's in place further north as they leave the station.
All that having been said, good idea getting this started. The "experts" need to do something. I hope this gets some traction and good things happen.

I can certainly understand the desire to have a light there. However, I think there are compelling reasons to have it at Fairway vs Ring Road.
First of all, whenever you put in a traffic light, the goal should be to serve the greatest population per light. A Ring Rd light would serve a smaller portion of Jacobs Ranch. One at Fairway would serve all of Jacobs Ranch, Summerhill and the golf course area including that newer area with all those homes. It would be much easier for those in upper JR to travel down to Fairway than get the more southern areas to go to Ring Road.
Second, geography would favor at Fairway. Ring is a single lane without room for turn lanes or left turn lanes. Those are already in place at Fairway. The downslope to Fairway makes visibility good to see as you approach to know you have to stop, while the placement on the hill at Ring could make sudden stops just as accident-prone as not having it.
Third, and this is the kicker, if you have sat, literally for 10 minutes trying to turn left from Fairway to Redwood northbound, you know something needs done there. With the larger population and traffic issues, it makes more sense there. Ring would benefit from this light as well, as it would stop traffic to allow those drivers to go north when it turns. Given morning and evening traffic patterns, Ring would benefit from a Fairway light. Fairway would not benefit from the Ring light.
